• We wrapped principal photography on Half Empty (working title). It was such an unbelievable project to work on. I made so many great friends and I can’t wait to work on NEW projects with them in the future. I’m also so incredibly excited to see it come together! You better believe that you won’t be able to escape knowing exactly when and where you can see it.
• Laura and I bought bikes and now that the weather is finally warming up we’re getting better and better. I finally bought myself a pair of those dorky gel seat biker shorts, because, well… it was time. I have yet to try them out, but I think they’re going to take their first ride today. I’m really loving bike riding and I just want to get better, better, better!
• The garden! I harvested our first bok choy last night and threw it in a stirfry. I have to say… it was pretty awesome. I’m getting better and better with my stirfrys, but I’m still having issues with tofu. Tofu is so delicate and I’m still learning how to fry it up properly so it doesn’t bust to pieces. We’ve also been making salads with our ever present lettuce, which is pretty cool. I can’t wait for the peas, tomatoes, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cucumbers, green beans, carrots, squash, and potatoes!
• Upcoming events! Laurallani will be headed to Vegas next week for a few days. We’ll be staying in Encore (the other Wynn hotel) and I’m so so so very excited about the pool in the 110 degree weather.Seattle Pride starts on the 25th! I hope it’s super sunny. I may or may not be volunteering to BBQ for everyone. Stay tuned, friends. I already have our tickets for the Storm vs. Fever game on the 25th; it’s Sue Bird bobble-head night! Yes, I will be early to get my chintzy plastic knickknack.

  4th of July of course.

  My family is having a big reunion in Oregon the week after the 4th. I’m not sure how much time Laura will be able to stay, but I look forward to her meeting my whole family (ish). Heh. I love hanging out with my nieces and nephews, so it should be a fun time.

  We’re headed to a friend’s cabin on Priest lake the first weekend in August. I’m super excited about this, because I haven’t seen him in forever, but I haven’t seen where I grew up in even longer. Hanging out on the lake with a boat, good friends, and my gal? Come on, that’s heaven to me.

  August 21st: LADY GAGA!!!!!

  The first two weeks of September Laurallani is going abroad! We’ll be in London for a few days and then we’re headed to Paris, the city of lights! We’ve rented an apartment in Paris so we can stay there for a whole week, but we’ll probably leave a bit early to go meandering through the countryside. We plan to make our way southeast to Nice, where we’ve reserved a gorgeous B&B. You know The General and accommodations, so you can trust that it will be ridiculously grand. We’re also hoping to make a day trip (or two) to Italy, since we’ll be so close. Good luck getting “Holiday Road” out of my head on this European Vacation.

• In October I’ll be going to Scottsdale, AZ with my brother-in-law (slash dentist) to a dental convention where I’ll be his patient. I’m basically getting a mouthful of beautiful Hollywood teeth for free, because he’s taking me to work on his skills with all these other hot-shot dentists. I’m so excited about this. I’ve been wanting veneers for a long time, but they’re so expensive and I didn’t want my mouth to look piecemeal-ed together. This will assure that I have top of the line choppers, and I won’t feel guilty about letting Paul do all that work for free, because he gets something out of it too. Everybody wins!

And then it’s fall and winter again and we get a new calendar. The time certainly does fly on by quicker and quicker.

The thing about this movie is that they’ll be attempting to shoot the whole thing, from start to finish, in the space of one day. That’s actually what made me respond to the casting call, just because I partially don’t believe it can be done, but if it can I’d like to be there to witness it. The audition was half terrifying and half wonderful. We did these improv games that I was totally unprepared for, but then I got to be a marriage counselor for two other actors and I pretty much rocked the shit out of that. Tony Straka, the director, told me that my therapist is what got me the role.

I’m pretty excited to have such a big part. My Fridays and Saturdays for the rest of May will be full of rehearsals, and we’re shooting the film on June 5th. The last week in May will also be when Half Empty (working title) shoots its very last week. I can’t believe we’re wrapping so soon. I’m really going to miss Half Empty.

Lauren Jackson

A post I wrote about Lauren Jackson consistently gets the most hits out of any post I’ve ever written. I’m led to believe that people like the following things: naked athletes, gossip about athlete relationships, lesbian athletes, and I need to bring back Titillating Tuesday.

Well the new season is almost upon us. I added the official WNBA Seattle Storm Google Calendar to my calendar so I’ve got the whole season in my sights. I plan on heading to the pre-season game against the Mercury on May 2.

Lauren Jackson signed a multi-year deal to stay with the Storm, and I’ve got mixed feelings. Yes, she is one of the best players in the league… when she actually plays. The woman seems to be on the bench with injuries more than any other player we’ve got… even the crappy ones. So it’s a great thing as long as she can play, but when she sits out all season it breaks my heart that we’re wasting our big contract money on her and not a good player that can actually play. Don’t get me wrong, I love her, she’s fantastic, I just hope she makes it up to us this year. I wish you much health and prosperity Lauren!

Player (pun intended) Diana Taurasi

Now, on to the dirt. (Disclaimer: all of the following is unconfirmed gossip and speculation. Enjoy it as such.) The blog post I referenced before became something of a message board on Lauren Jackson and Diana Taurasi’s relationship, or lack thereof. I’m hoping this post will go on to be the same way. Both are dykes (yay!) and they broke up, so they’re spreading dyke all over the league. Let’s see how, shall we?

I have it on Bob Green’s authority that Diana Taurasi now dates teammate Penny Taylor, who is rumored to be divorcing her husband. Damn Taurasi, you sure have a type, huh?

Penny Taylor is Australian, just like Lauren Jackson, and therefore takes sexy-ass photos of herself. That seems to be a trend only among Australian born WNBA athletes. Step your game up, Americans!

Why Diana would date someone on her own team is just baffling. That cannot be good for the team at all. Suppose they fight or break up–awkward. Even if they’re doing great as a couple it must make the rest of the team feel really weird. I suppose it’s a big fat out-there secret, but… not really. Maybe as pro-athletes they’re all just inherently ninjas at hiding their gayness. Boo!

First of all, I now have two movies listed on my IMDB page. I’m on my way, y’all! Related to that, the movie Half Empty is starting to ramp up and we’re going to be rehearsing in January and then filming will begin in February. I’ve been asked to pull double-duty and work as a PA on the project as well, I’ve decided to do it. So I’ll be on set for most of the shooting days, even when I’m not in the scenes. I’ll be documenting the behind the scenes kind of shiz for the movie blog and stuff.

I’m not sure why, all of a sudden, but I’ve decided to audition for a short film shooting in January. My audition is tomorrow. The people behind the film have worked on some pretty great things, so if I get it I think it could be pretty cool.

In February I’m going to go on a cruise with Kim Ruehl. It’s called Cayamo and it’s this cruise that leaves Miami, heads down to Belize, stops in Mexico and makes its way back to Miami, but the big deal about the cruise is the lineup. It’s all a bout music on Cayamo, and the number of amazing artists on the cruise is just nutz. Because of what Kim does, we’re getting this incredible discount and I just couldn’t pass up the experience. I got my tickets to Miami tonight.

My sister Amy will be having her first baby in March, and I volunteered to go down and help her out. I’ll be in San Diego for two weeks right after I get back from the cruise. Her husband will be busy with work, and they will have just refinished their home, so things are going to be crazy. I’m hoping I can be a big help there.

The General is just awesome. She’s just amazing at what she does and I’m in awe of her work ethic and drive. It’s pretty cool to watch her grind away at her special side-projects.

The holidays are in full swing! I’m loving it! I’m gathering all the stocking stuffers and wrapping all the presents, and making hot buttered rum. Yes! I’m also looking forward to the annual Caroling with Carollani event held some day before Christmas. The looks on the people’s faces is heartwarming and priceless.

Adam and his girlfriend are coming up for a visit, and I’m hoping to entice him into staying with us for a night or two while he’s here. I’m quite excited about that.

I’ve been skiing twice this year already at Crystal Mountain, and both times were superb conditions. The extra long drive is totally worth it. There’s never any wait for the lifts, and the runs are so long and fun. I am, however, looking forward to when The Summit is all open and running, because it sure is close. I can’t wait until I’m not completely sore the day after skiing.

After dinner we stopped into Cupcake Royale for a delicious treat. Yum!

Then we skipped over Lake Washington to Bellevue where we went to see Precious at Lincoln Square Cinemas.  We love that theater, because the seats are so plush and they recline, and you can move the armrests up if you want.

The movie was… hard. It was very difficult to watch and so beautifully done. I heard that the cast was great, but I wasn’t prepared for the depths they took themselves to in this film. Wow. Mo’Nique was brilliant at playing someone so awful, so wounded, so sick–and at the end–someone so pitiful that you had to feel bad for her despite yourself.

I had to respect Mariah Carey’s performance as well, there was no chink in the facade of this character. She did amazingly well.

I think what made it so amazing is that Mariah Carey has basically built a career out of an image. An image of “perfection” that prevented us from ever seeing her, the woman. With this character there is none of that [up in lights] Mariah Carey that we have come to believe she is. I honestly didn’t think she had enough soul in her to do something this serious and difficult. I was wrong, she excelled.

But I’m hot for teacher! Both Laura and I were like, helloooooo teacher! It made sense when it turned out Paula Patton’s character was a lesbian. Did you know gaydar worked in film, too? Well it does, and hot damn! Paula Patton could teach me the ABCs anytime.

Then there’s Precious herself, Gabourey Sidibe, who just shined. What a role to take on for someone who wasn’t even pursuing acting. She did take it on, though, and with such commitment and grace. The fantasies dappled in amongst the horror of her life were more real than the awful realities. Congratulations Gabourey!

As sad, and heart wrenching, and difficult this film was to see, it ended on a hopeful note. Small steps that equal big change. I don’t want to give anything away, but wow. Lee Daniels directed a masterpiece of human grief and joy. Hands down one of the finest films of the year.

I’m a little obsessed with her show on MSNBC, because she has a way of presenting news appropriately while putting this great schmear of personality on it.  I am subscribed to her show via podcast, so every day I go to the gym, and while I’m working out I watch Rachel Maddow.  It’s pretty awesome that such a butch-ass dyke has such a visible and clearly respected show.  I mean, a sitcom or talk show is one thing, but the news?  She broke some glass on that one!

Meanwhile, adorable fag Anderson Cooper, maintains a strictly “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.  I would have expected that it would be a man to be the first out news reporter, but no! Rachel Maddow, what a woman.

She’s absolutely adorable, in her cuddly teddybear way.  During the height of the “teabagging” stories, I was tickled to watch Rachel turn beat red (even with all that makeup!) while Ana Marie Cox went on and on with not so veiled tongue in cheek sexual references.  Maddow’s modesty and humility is incredibly endearing.

The contrast between hers and Keith Olbermann‘s show is so stark that it’s somewhat jarring to go from one to the next.  (This may sound harsh, but I do watch them both pretty religiously.) Olbermann is anything but modest, and is constantly trying to entertain.  It can be a little exhausting to take in that much sarcasm in an hour… and I watch The Daily Show!  Olbermann is constantly picking and jabbing at his enemies, while Maddow is constantly trying to find middle ground and create an environment for real discussion.

As a self proclaimed geek, Maddow chooses stories that are both interesting and educational. I really believe that she does her best to see both sides of every story before she presents it to her audience. I get the sense that she takes her job very seriously, and it pays off.  Just a few days ago Al Gore complimented her on her show and told her that he appreciates the news stories that she chooses and also the way she presents it.  That’s quite a compliment.  I agree with Mr. Gore.

Rachel Maddow is smart, silly, funny, geeky, goofy, serious, and sincere.  All that adds up to sexy in my book.

We flew in to Los Angeles on Friday and proceeded to get a little drunk at the hotel bar, but we started up early and made our way to Disneyland! Here we are (Steven, Logan, me, Laura, Brandon) in front of some random Halloween decked Disneyland cart.  Since it is Halloween time, the Haunted Mansion was full of Nightmare Before Christmas stuff.

Laura, Brandon and I soldiered on after Logan and Steven left to go to the beach.  The three of us stayed in the park until closing time. My favorite rides were the Screamer, the Tower of Terror, Indiana Jones, and Splash Mountain (even though my jeans were soaked most of the day).

On Sunday we met up with Logan, Steven, Matt, David Jack, and Javier (aka Daddy) for brunch and then the main event: Kylie Minogue at the Hollywood Bowl.  David Jack split the front of his pants doing a cheerleader kick before the show… so that set the tone. Heh.  The concert was amazing! The graphics and set design were really phenomenal and Ms. Minogue was flawless. Leaving the show we saw Ongina from RuPaul’s Drag Race wearing a pretty great fake mustache. (Unfortunately, I left the lights on the rental car on so the car was dead when we returned to it, so our night took a turn. Luckily, a stranger finally helped us out. A big eff you to all of the people in the parking garage that lied and told me you didn’t have jumper cables, and a big THANK YOU to the awesome Mexican guy in a large pickup that eagerly saved our day in 5 minutes or less.)

We took Brandon to the airport and then we migrated South to San Diego. We met up with some of the boys again at Baja Betty’s in the Hillcrest neighborhood. Laura and I both wore purple so as to look like proper lookalike lesbians. J/k.

We spent some lovely lazy days at my sister and brother-in-law’s house in San Diego with the cutest dog known to man, Dexter.  We also met up with Kate and Nikolai and went boogie boarding at Coronado where Kate and Nikolai have the most amazing condo looking over all of San Diego and nearby Mexico.

On our last full day we met up with Laura’s aunt Linda who took us to the Mission for an amazing breakfast, and then to the zoo where we monkeyed around (har har).

I took advantage of a sleeping hippo.

We watched this female panda lumber around her habitat after splashing in the water for a bit.

This meerkat is showing off for the crowd, because he’s the only one that can climb the fake termite mound in the enclosure. He was pretty freaking cute.

What’s up giraffe? Say hello to your mother for me.

Laura’s aunt was like the orangutan whisperer. She was showing this curious orangutan the contents of her purse and he was very interested in all the family photos.  It was pretty neat to watch.

I instructed Linda and Laura to make a funny face and they did the exact same thing. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, eh? We had a fabulous time at the San Diego Zoo and learned some interesting things. After we finished we ate at Extraordinary Desserts and then picked up some delicious cheeses at Verissimo Cheese for a casual dinner.

On the day we had to fly back to Seattle we packed in one last big destination: the Wild Animal Park up near Escondido. We went on a really cool safari ride and then we rode the carousel to get closer to the animals. Laura pictured here riding an elephant.

The sunset on the flight home was pretty spectacular and gave the whole trip a nice exclamation point.

We’re very glad to be home, but we’re miserably sick with colds. Gotta press on, The General’s birthday is on Friday!

Wow wow wow.  Okay, so this photograph doesn’t make Ellen Page a lesbian, but god dammit, it doesn’t hurt.  I suspected early on that Ellen Page was a dyke, but most of it was wishful thinking.  Then my girlfriend suspected that EP was a dyke and my interest in the subject was renewed. Heh.  Then this photo came and… um, yeah. Rawr!

So, now that I got the deliciousness out of the way, here’s the trailer for their upcoming film. It looks wonderful and hilarious, but I worry that knowing so many real-life roller derby girls might put a weird slant on the movie for me. Heh. It’s in theaters Friday!
