Lauren Jackson

A post I wrote about Lauren Jackson consistently gets the most hits out of any post I’ve ever written. I’m led to believe that people like the following things: naked athletes, gossip about athlete relationships, lesbian athletes, and I need to bring back Titillating Tuesday.

Well the new season is almost upon us. I added the official WNBA Seattle Storm Google Calendar to my calendar so I’ve got the whole season in my sights. I plan on heading to the pre-season game against the Mercury on May 2.

Lauren Jackson signed a multi-year deal to stay with the Storm, and I’ve got mixed feelings. Yes, she is one of the best players in the league… when she actually plays. The woman seems to be on the bench with injuries more than any other player we’ve got… even the crappy ones. So it’s a great thing as long as she can play, but when she sits out all season it breaks my heart that we’re wasting our big contract money on her and not a good player that can actually play. Don’t get me wrong, I love her, she’s fantastic, I just hope she makes it up to us this year. I wish you much health and prosperity Lauren!

Player (pun intended) Diana Taurasi

Now, on to the dirt. (Disclaimer: all of the following is unconfirmed gossip and speculation. Enjoy it as such.) The blog post I referenced before became something of a message board on Lauren Jackson and Diana Taurasi’s relationship, or lack thereof. I’m hoping this post will go on to be the same way. Both are dykes (yay!) and they broke up, so they’re spreading dyke all over the league. Let’s see how, shall we?

I have it on Bob Green’s authority that Diana Taurasi now dates teammate Penny Taylor, who is rumored to be divorcing her husband. Damn Taurasi, you sure have a type, huh?

Penny Taylor is Australian, just like Lauren Jackson, and therefore takes sexy-ass photos of herself. That seems to be a trend only among Australian born WNBA athletes. Step your game up, Americans!

Why Diana would date someone on her own team is just baffling. That cannot be good for the team at all. Suppose they fight or break up–awkward. Even if they’re doing great as a couple it must make the rest of the team feel really weird. I suppose it’s a big fat out-there secret, but… not really. Maybe as pro-athletes they’re all just inherently ninjas at hiding their gayness. Boo!

After dinner we stopped into Cupcake Royale for a delicious treat. Yum!

Then we skipped over Lake Washington to Bellevue where we went to see Precious at Lincoln Square Cinemas.  We love that theater, because the seats are so plush and they recline, and you can move the armrests up if you want.

The movie was… hard. It was very difficult to watch and so beautifully done. I heard that the cast was great, but I wasn’t prepared for the depths they took themselves to in this film. Wow. Mo’Nique was brilliant at playing someone so awful, so wounded, so sick–and at the end–someone so pitiful that you had to feel bad for her despite yourself.

I had to respect Mariah Carey’s performance as well, there was no chink in the facade of this character. She did amazingly well.

I think what made it so amazing is that Mariah Carey has basically built a career out of an image. An image of “perfection” that prevented us from ever seeing her, the woman. With this character there is none of that [up in lights] Mariah Carey that we have come to believe she is. I honestly didn’t think she had enough soul in her to do something this serious and difficult. I was wrong, she excelled.

But I’m hot for teacher! Both Laura and I were like, helloooooo teacher! It made sense when it turned out Paula Patton’s character was a lesbian. Did you know gaydar worked in film, too? Well it does, and hot damn! Paula Patton could teach me the ABCs anytime.

Then there’s Precious herself, Gabourey Sidibe, who just shined. What a role to take on for someone who wasn’t even pursuing acting. She did take it on, though, and with such commitment and grace. The fantasies dappled in amongst the horror of her life were more real than the awful realities. Congratulations Gabourey!

As sad, and heart wrenching, and difficult this film was to see, it ended on a hopeful note. Small steps that equal big change. I don’t want to give anything away, but wow. Lee Daniels directed a masterpiece of human grief and joy. Hands down one of the finest films of the year.

I’m a little obsessed with her show on MSNBC, because she has a way of presenting news appropriately while putting this great schmear of personality on it.  I am subscribed to her show via podcast, so every day I go to the gym, and while I’m working out I watch Rachel Maddow.  It’s pretty awesome that such a butch-ass dyke has such a visible and clearly respected show.  I mean, a sitcom or talk show is one thing, but the news?  She broke some glass on that one!

Meanwhile, adorable fag Anderson Cooper, maintains a strictly “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.  I would have expected that it would be a man to be the first out news reporter, but no! Rachel Maddow, what a woman.

She’s absolutely adorable, in her cuddly teddybear way.  During the height of the “teabagging” stories, I was tickled to watch Rachel turn beat red (even with all that makeup!) while Ana Marie Cox went on and on with not so veiled tongue in cheek sexual references.  Maddow’s modesty and humility is incredibly endearing.

The contrast between hers and Keith Olbermann‘s show is so stark that it’s somewhat jarring to go from one to the next.  (This may sound harsh, but I do watch them both pretty religiously.) Olbermann is anything but modest, and is constantly trying to entertain.  It can be a little exhausting to take in that much sarcasm in an hour… and I watch The Daily Show!  Olbermann is constantly picking and jabbing at his enemies, while Maddow is constantly trying to find middle ground and create an environment for real discussion.

As a self proclaimed geek, Maddow chooses stories that are both interesting and educational. I really believe that she does her best to see both sides of every story before she presents it to her audience. I get the sense that she takes her job very seriously, and it pays off.  Just a few days ago Al Gore complimented her on her show and told her that he appreciates the news stories that she chooses and also the way she presents it.  That’s quite a compliment.  I agree with Mr. Gore.

Rachel Maddow is smart, silly, funny, geeky, goofy, serious, and sincere.  All that adds up to sexy in my book.

I remember reading that quote and then immediately thinking it would be “interesting” if Biden showed up at the big gay fundraiser despite hordes of angry gay protesters.  Is it different because we’re not on official strike?  Or is it different because we’re gay and don’t have the same rights that straight people do, which makes us less legitimately human than they?

How can they say they won’t cross picket lines when it’s about labor unions, but then dance through the gay picket lines?  Wack.  The Obama administration has seriously let me down on everything besides diplomacy, but where is he at home? We need his efforts HERE! NOW!

More seriously, is chemical castration an option for LDS gays? I mean, if you’re faithful LDS & accept that for whatever reason the Lord has put you on Earth as a “eunuch” (best case, if you can stay strong), why should you have to struggle with incessant thoughts that are not just inappropriate now, but will be inappropriate in the next life, too, only serve to pervert any desires to have children in a celestial relationship in the next life. There is zero point to having homosexual thoughts, it’s not as though they’re a normal part of the procreation process – they’re just an annoying, perverted form of biology, entirely worthless.

…and we thought shock therapy was bad.  I know mormons, I grew up mormon, and mormons shield themselves from the world (somewhat), so it should be no great shock for me to realize that some fringe mormons would go so far as to suggest something so heinous, but it is.

I’m completely horrified and embarrassed for their ignorance and hateful ideas.  This kind of “solution” is akin to Hitler’s brilliant ideas for curing problems, and is downright torturous.  Sex is only part of sexual orientation.  I can’t and won’t ever be attracted to a man the way I am to women, and it was that way before sex existed for me at all.

Why would they uphold Prop 8, but allow the marriages of all those gays and lesbians to stand?  If it’s against the law for gays and lesbians to marry, then why are there some gays and lesbians who are allowed to remain married under California law?  They get to stay married because they were grandfathered in? Is that it?  Isn’t it against the law for some gays and lesbians to receive “special rights” under the law, but not all gays and lesbians?

Now, I am not saying I think their marriage licenses to be null and void at all, but isn’t this weird?  Obviously, all citizens should have the same rights regardless of sexual orientation.  I’m just baffled at this paradox they’ve created.

It blows my mind how he can get away with such homophobic speech on a dance show.  Do you know the percentage of gay people in dance?  It’s crazy high, and the dancers who aren’t gay have almost all experimented with same-sex sex partners.  It’s a very orgy-like atmosphere that’s so focused on bodies and feeling good that most dancers don’t give a shit about gay vs. straight.

That said, those were some gay-ass outfits and no proper gay would have trotted those out on stage, so boo on them.  I honestly wasn’t offended at all by Mary or Sonja’s comments.  Theirs were actual critiques on the problems in the dance, but Nigel focused almost entirely on the appearance of two men dancing intimately.  GASP!  Oh brother, that man is out of touch.

I got dressed when I got close to the club into my “waitstaff” outfit.  The casting people pressed again and again that our shirts had to be off-white or cream and could not be white, but the wardrobe people were exasperated when they saw our cream colored shirts and demanded to know why we hadn’t worn white shirts.  It was particularly frustrating because I’d scoured the whole city of Seattle looking for an off-white button-up shirt and didn’t have much luck.  White would’ve been so easy.  It doesn’t really matter anyway, because warddrobe had a white shirt that fit me nicely.

I didn’t actually do anything until around 11am, when I was a white blur up the hill from the green where they were shooting.  I was outside in the cold for a couple hours while they filmed that scene from several different POVs.  When they were done I got to go back inside to warm up for a while.  We broke for lunch and then waited a while longer as they set up the dining room for the next scene.

When they were finally ready to shoot the dining room scene I was stoked and ready to roll.  In that scene almost all of the show’s principles were present, so it was a little more exciting.  Christian Kane seemed like a pretty cool guy.  He’s much smaller than he seems on tv.  Like, he’s definitely muscular, but he’s skinny and short.  The way he swaggers makes him seem much bigger than he really is.  I don’t understand his hair, but he’s a good looking guy.  Timothy Hutton seems like the joker of the group and was goofing around as much as he could, but he was on point when he was working.  Gina Bellman is tall and beautiful and kept to herself, I would’ve loved to have chatted with her a bit but I didn’t really get a chance.  I was too busy waiting tables, heh.

I waited tables for several hours and then there was more waiting around.  A couple more background shots and then we were done… 12 hours after I got there.  It was a long day, but a fun day and I was very happy to be there.  You can tell the actors from the random people in the Extra holdling area pretty easily–the actors are happy to be there and always have something to keep them busy, but the random people thinking that extra work will be fun are always complaining about all the waiting around and are obviously bored.  I don’t mind extra work at all, I just love being able to be on set and watch how everything happens.  I had a good time, but I was definitely tired and ready for a bit of rest when the day was done.

I made it to my friend Rachel’s house and sat down for dinner with her family.  It was great to sit down and get to know them all.  After a quick shower, Rachel and I went out to a pub to watch her friend’s band.  We had a couple drinks, watched a couple bands, and then went back to her house.  I had a pretty good night’s sleep and was grateful for a quiet and comfortable place to crash.  We had breakfast in the morning and then I was back on the road.

It was pouring rain almost the whole way home.  The General and I are both sick (no swine, just sore throats and lethargy) so we have been sleeping as much as possible.
